Environmental Biology Major

 

The major in environmental biology provides understanding of biological processes among populations, communities, and ecosystems. Majors must complete eight core courses, three elective courses, and the capstone requirement.

Core Courses

All students majoring in environmental biology complete core courses including:

Elective Courses

Three elective courses in the department of ecology and evolutionary biology must include two laboratory-field courses.

A maximum of one elective course may be chosen from among:

Majors are also required to complete

  • two semesters of Mathematics
  • CHEM 1070 - General Chemistry I
  • CHEM 1075 - General Chemistry Laboratory I
  • CHEM 1080 - General Chemistry II
  • CHEM 1085 - General Chemistry Laboratory II

  • CHEM 2500 - Environmental Chemistry
    or
  • CHEM 2410 - Organic Chemistry I
  • CHEM 2415 - Organic Chemistry Laboratory I

  • Courses in statistics and physics are highly recommended but are not
  • required.

Capstone

The capstone requirement may be satisfied by completion of EBIO 4970-4980 or EBIO 5970. EBIO 4930 is only available by departmental approval for those students who cannot take the regular courses.
